At San Jac, we take emergency preparedness and response seriously to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. To help safeguard the San Jac community, listed below are some helpful tips.

Is an emergency happening right now? The San Jac Police Department has officers available to provide assistance 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. If you need assistance, please contact the appropriate number below.

Emergency Information
An emergency is defined as an urgent, unexpected, and usually dangerous situation that poses an immediate risk to health, life, property, or environment and requires immediate action. Emergency situations may include:
- Fire and smoke
- Personal injuries and threats
- Bomb threats
- Suspicious mail
- Biohazards and chemical spills
- Gas leaks
- Floods and other natural disasters
As soon as feasible after an event occurs, the College will send alerts via SJC AlertMe (emergency notification system), the College website, and other sources as deemed appropriate. In the event of a campus emergency, all college business operations could be forced to cease, and the campus declared closed, shut down, or under an evacuation order depending on the situation.

Have an Exit Plan
Usual exit paths may not be accessible during an emergency. So it is necessary to identify additional emergency exits beforehand.

Learn To Use Safety Equipment
In the event of a fire emergency, it is helpful to know the locations of different emergency equipment, as well as how to use it. This includes:
- Fire extinguishers and pull stations
- First aid stations
- Opioid overdose reversal kits (Narcan, located at first aid stations)
- Bleeding control kits (located at first aid stations)
- AED stations

Blue Light Phones
Each campus has multiple parking lots and building exteriors that are equipped with Blue Light Phones. These devices are easily identified by locating a yellow pole with a blue light attached to the top.

Emergency Resources and Procedures
CAMPUS SECURITY AUTHORITY
The Clery Act designates employees of the campus community as campus security authorities (CSAs). These individuals do not perform the same duties as our police officers.
When CSAs become aware of a crime that has occurred on or around campus, they have an obligation to report the information to SJC PD, the Title IV Office, or the Clery Compliance Manager.
CSAs play an important role in keeping the San Jac community safe. They relay important information that keeps our community informed and ensures individuals have access to the support and resources needed.
What a CSA Should Do
The function of the CSA is to report to the official or office designated by the College to collect crime report information, such as the campus police or security department, those allegations of Clery Act crimes that they received.
CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act violations or crimes. They may witness the crime, overhear it, and/or have it reported to them.
What the CSA Shouldn't Do
The CSA is not responsible for determining whether a crime took place, nor should they try to apprehend the alleged perpetrator.
