BSN Nursing

BSN Admission Information

We at San Jacinto College are excited to help you take the next step in your nursing career. As you prepare to apply for our BSN program, it’s important to understand our application requirements. This will help you put your best foot forward. Let’s dive in!

Application periods:
Fall applications: April 14 - Aug. 4
Spring applications: Sept. 15 - Jan. 5

How to Apply

After you’ve been admitted to San Jac, follow these steps to prepare for your program. By the way, if you haven't applied to San Jac, you'll need to do that first.

The BSN program begins each fall and spring semester. Designed for working RNs, all classes are 100% online. Clinical and/or community hours are in-person.

If you have any questions or just want to talk to someone about the program, please reach out to us.
  1. Admissions Criteria

We’re excited to have you join our program. To get started, we recommend reviewing the BSN nursing handbook, which provides detailed information about every aspect of the program. Below are the standards you’ll need to meet to qualify.

    • Have an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS) degree from an accredited institution.
    • Hold a grade of C or higher in all previous nursing transfer courses.
    • Hold an unencumbered Texas RN licensure. Remember that your licensure must be valid throughout the program.
    • Be currently employed as a professional nurse with employment verification required. This requirement is deferred for new graduated associate degree in nursing (ADN) applicants.

  2. Get Your Pre-Reqs in Order

Make sure you’ve completed, or are in the process of completing your pre-requisite courses. For a detailed list, please review this outline.

You can still apply even if you haven’t finished every course yet. Just keep in mind that your application won’t reflect final grades, which could make your admission into the program more challenging. You’ll also earn more points on our admissions rubric for courses you’ve already completed.

Because of this, we recommend finishing as many prerequisites as possible before applying. Doing so not only strengthens your application but also sets you up for success in the upper-level nursing courses once you’re in the program.

  3. Apply to the BSN Program

You'll need your student ID (G number) and login information to apply. Pro tip: If your application times out, close all browser windows and try again or open the application link via InPrivate Window (Edge) or InCognito Window (Chrome).

  4. Employment Verification Form

Our program requires that you are currently employed as a professional nurse. Please use this form for employment verification.

Note: this requirement is deferred for new graduated associate degree in nursing (ADN) applicants.

As part of the BSN program, you will be studying in facilities outside of the College during clinicals, practicums, and other experiential instances. During these times, you will be required to comply with the immunization policies of each facility to be able to participate. These requirements are implemented by the outside facilities and are not mandated by San Jac. Failure to meet the immunization requirements may limit your ability to complete the program. It may also delay your graduation date. San Jac does not process exemptions. You must address potential vaccination exemptions directly with the external learning site.

We use CastleBranch to document and track immunization records, drug screenings, and more. Please create an account and use the code JC18dtim to complete the order process for the RN-to-BSN program CastleBranch requirements.
