New Student Orientation FAQs
New Student Orientation is a very important step in your transition to becoming a student at San Jacinto College. This experience will provide you with the opportunity to meet other new students, current student leaders, faculty, and staff.
You will leave orientation with the information necessary to be successful at SJC. After you complete orientation, you will be able to meet with an admissions advisor to determine your class schedule.
Yes, orientation is mandatory for all first time in college students, including previous dual credit students. Transfer students with less than 12 successfully completed credit hours are also required to complete an Online Orientation. ESOL students will be required to attend orientation once they complete their language program. International students (F-1 visa) are also required to attend orientation, as well as a separate orientation specific to international students.
Our system is designed to only allow you to complete orientation in a designated timeframe to best meet your student success needs. Therefore, if your application is for summer, you will need to sign up for orientation during the corresponding months. The same is true for fall and spring. You must attend New Student Orientation before you register for classes.
If you applied to start classes in the Summer, you should attend New Student Orientation in March, April, May, June or July.
If you applied to start classes in the Fall, you should attend New Student Orientation in May, June, July, August, September or October.
If you applied to start classes in the Spring, you should attend New Student Orientation in October, November, December, January, February or March.

No, orientation must be completed before you can register for classes. For situations such as this, there is an online orientation option.
There are a few reasons this may happen. 1. You must sign up for online orientation while the on line orientation link is activated. If you have not done this, it may be why you are getting the error. 2. You may have signed up for a campus orientation session. To take online orientation, you will need to sign in to SOS and change your session to online. 3. You must complete all admisssions requirements before completing New Student Orientation.
You will receive an email to your San Jac email account and to the email account you used to complete your application. The email will contain all the information about the orientation session you signed up for.
